Nova Scotia SPCA Seeks Interested Candidates  for the Provincial Board of Directors

The Nova Scotia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NS SPCA) is currently seeking two interested individuals to serve a minimum two-year term as Directors-at-Large on its volunteer Board of Directors following election at the Society’s Annual General Meeting on April 23, 2016.

The Provincial Board of Directors is a governance board that sets strategic direction and oversees the affairs and business of the NS SPCA.  Some recent successes that the Board has overseen include: establishment of a low-cost spay-and-neuter clinic in Dartmouth and veterinary hospital in Sydney, merger of the SPCA’s 11 branches into a single provincial organization, development of the WOOF (Working on our Future) Program in partnership with the NS Department of Justice, and launch of a new SPCA website.

Candidates should possess a true commitment to animal welfare.  Skill sets we are looking for include but are not limited to:

  • expertise in fund development, particularly in the non-profit marketplace
  • strong knowledge of social media trends and their strategic utilization
  • a law background
  • strong networks and connections to diverse communities plus an ability to cultivate relationships that advance the organization.

Board commitment itself would involve approximately 4 hours per month, including attendance at bi-monthly board meetings.  Additionally, Board members may give time to ad-hoc committees.  Regular Board meetings take place on the last Monday of every other month at 7:00PM.

A completed application package includes:

  • your resume
  • a cover letter outlining your expression of interest, why you wish to serve and what you can contribute to the Board
  • a signed Application Declaration (2016 Applicant Declaration – Final)

Applications for membership must be received by March 18, 2016 and should be submitted to:
