Lunenburg County, NS (October 26, 2017) – Sarah Roberts a resident of Chester Basin was sentenced to a 10 year prohibition from owning animals or residing where animals are present on October 20th 2017. Roberts plead guilty to permitting an animal to be in distress; contrary to section 21(2) of the Animal Protection Act of NS.
In early September 2016, while acting on a concern received from the public, NS SPCA cruelty officers responded to the Chester Basin area residence and found one dog in critical distress and another suffering from a chronic severe illness. Both dogs were taken into custody and unfortunately had to be humanely euthanized. Both dogs were taken for a necropsy at the Truro Agriculture pathology lab where severe illnesses were determined.
It was also ordered that Roberts surrender to the NS SPCA any other animals in her possession within 72 hours from the date of the order. On October 24th, 2017, a beagle was retrieved from the residence and taken into custody by the SPCA. Once examined and assessed, the dog will be placed for adoption.
The NS SPCA has a zero-tolerance policy for animal cruelty and neglect. Please speak for those who cannot speak for themselves by contacting the SPCA’s confidential cruelty line 1-888-703-7722.
