PRESS RELEASE: Together, More are Saved. Nova Scotia SPCA Regional Branches Merged

Posted on: Sunday, May 1st, 2016

Dartmouth (May 1, 2016) – The Nova Scotia SPCA would like to announce the merge of our branches (Antigonish, Hants, La Baie, Lunenburg, Queens, Cape Breton, Colchester, Kings, Pictou, Yarmouth, and Provincial). This change allows the organization to be more strategic in the delivery of enhanced programs, gives increased ability to protect financial assets and provides better opportunity to grow provincial fundraising initiatives.

“The merge has been a collaborative effort between all of the SPCA Branches.  As we prepared for the merge, it was through this transformation of our organization we proved that when we collaborate together more animals are saved – in 2015 we sheltered over 5,700 animals.” announced Elizabeth Murphy, Nova Scotia SPCA CEO.

“While we have renovated a few SPCA animal shelters the community will notice only improvements in areas such as services provided. Volunteer support is as vital as ever to ensure that as many animals in need as possible are benefiting from the life-saving work we do every day.  Donor contributions are the lifeblood of the organization and the Nova Scotia SPCA is committed to ensuring that every dollar of funding is used to protect and promote the well-being of animals. Branches will continue to have the ability to accept donor gifts and issue charitable tax receipts.” states Murphy.

The Nova Scotia SPCA would like to remind the community that 100% of the money raised in their community stays in their community to help animals in need locally.
