When you have decided on the specific animal you would like to adopt, please stop in to meet with him or her.
To place a hold on a specific animal an adult member of the household must come into the shelter to meet the dog. A hold will then be placed for 1 day. Everyone in the household must come in to meet the adoptee within that time frame to solidify the hold and proceed with the application. If this is not possible please speak to shelter staff, in some cases an exception may be made depending on the circumstances and the specific dog you are interested in adopting. We do consider applications on a first come first serve basis but also reserve the right to evaluate which home is the best fit for that particular dog. You will be required to show photo ID.
When you submit an application you will be required to provide 2 references that can tell us what a great dog owner you will be and can tell us how well you will care for a new pet. Please choose references that will be able to speak to the home you can provide, and that have seen you interacting with dogs. If you currently own a dog we ask for your current veternarian to be one of those references. Only one of your references can be a family member and someone living in the same household can not be a reference.
We do require Puppy socialization and Obedience classes for some of our adoptable dogs to ensure they develop great canine manners and become an important part of your household. A list of obedience trainers will be provided and proof you have registered in one of these classes must be provided to complete the adoption, these classes would be at an additional expense to you.
Also, once all members of the household have meet the dog, if you have an dog already in the home, we will then arrange a time to bring your dog in to meet the potential adoptee to ensure it is a good fit for everyone. This is a mandatory step, the meet and greet takes place at the shelter at a time that will be scheduled in advance.
For all other applications we do not get a chance to process them for preapproval, your application will be processes once you select the dog you are interested in adopting and come in to meet him/her. We do not get a chance to contact you when a dog matching your preferences becomes available. Please continue to watch our website for new adoptable dogs or stop into the shelter periodically during our hours of operation.
We are now able to complete your application same day. When you are ready to adopt please stop into the shelter to visit the adoptable cats. You will be required to show photo id.
Cats must leave in a carrier, we typically have some suitable cardboard cat carriers available for purchase from the shelter.
We will also ask that you agree that you will not declaw any cat you adopt from us. For information on alternatives to declawing please visit our website here:
If you are interested in adopting a declawed cat please contact the shelter and we can notify you when an already declawed cats becomes available for adoption.
Please make sure you are ready to take on the commitment of adopting a cat and stop into the shelter or one of our offsite adoption partners when you are ready to make the lifelong commitment to a companion.
If after adopting, you find that your new pet is not the best fit for you, we do provide 2 weeks in which you can return the pet for a full refund of the adoption fee. We recognize that sometimes resident animals already in the home may not be accepting of the new pet, and some things may become apparant only after adoption (such as allergies).
