La Baie Friends of the SPCA

In 2005 concerned citizens of the municipality of Clare in Digby County, otherwise known as La Baie Sainte Marie, headed by Gail Melanson, got together to see what they could do to help abandoned cats and dogs in Clare.

Each Clare municipal councillor was asked to help find volunteers interested and willing to devote their time to forming the La Baie Friends of the SPCA and by fall of 2005, the Board of Directors were in place.

Bit by bit and with a few growing pains, La Baie Friends of the SPCA continues to recruit foster and adoptive homes and organize fundraisers to help the abandoned domestic cats and dogs get veterinary care.

Adopting an animal from an SPCA, humane organization or rescue group can be a very rewarding experience. You will be giving a homeless animal a second chance in life and providing it with a safe, loving “forever” home.

Other Ways To Give

SPONSOR an animal. You may not be able to foster or adopt an animal but would be willing to pay for an animal’s veterinary and medical needs to help someone else willing and able to provide the hands on care.

Our greatest need is for foster homes to care for cats and kittens!  We rely solely on foster homes, if interested in learning more check out our foster information page here.

Volunteering with the La Baie branch would involve being a foster home, assisting with fundraising events and various other tasks.  Contact us or fill out an application on line here to find out more ways you can help!
