Lunenburg Friends of the SPCA
Lunenburg Friends of the SPCA was formed in 1989. Lots of activities were undertaken to get the name recognized and publicized.
We have continued to work to get recognition and to educate the public about our role in animal welfare. To do this, volunteers participate in outreach activities in malls, veterinarians offices, and hold fundraising events.
An annual Yard Sale has been held every year since 1990. This continued until three years ago when we were able to hold it in the 4H Barn at the South Shore Exhibition Grounds in Bridgewater.
It took a while but a foster network has been created to look after the animals that we take into our care. Lunenburg is a large County and distances have caused challenges for the volunteers.
Today we are pleased to be able to offer help with spaying and neutering through our “Margaret Garland Fund”. Lunenburg Friends of the SPCA targets areas where there are large concentrations of animals to curb overpopulation.
We use various methods to inform the public of the animals that are available for adoption including posters in stores around Bridgewater and Lunenburg, which are updated monthly; paid ads in the local papers; radio PSAs on local radio; Petfinder (Kijiji), Facebook; and through Adopt-a-thons in local pet food stores.
Adopting an animal from an SPCA, humane organization or rescue group can be a very rewarding experience. You will be giving a homeless animal a second chance in life and providing it with a safe, loving “forever” home.
