FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Creo Mundi - Canadian company speed-fundraising drive for the Nova Scotia SPCA gives away as much as they keep, and thrives!
The Nova Scotia SPCA is pleased to announce a fantastic collaboration with Creo Mundi to raise funds for the SPCA, which relies almost entirely on donations to sustain its animal cruelty investigations unit.
"I think we can use this to create a whole new business model," said Alison Prentice, President of Creo Mundi Inc. "One where you can give away to charity as much as you keep, and still thrive in your business."
Creo Mundi was featured in 2008 on Season 3 episode 8 of the CBC show, "The Dragons' Den" and subsequently voted "Fan Favourite" for that week. "We knew if we just held on to what we believe in the company," says Prentice, "people would feel the honesty and integrity in our message." And apparently it worked. Now Prentice wants to take that success and build a new way of doing business. One where it is a win/win for all involved.
How can you give away as much as you keep and still stay in business?
"Why not?" said Prentice. "There are over 2 million nonprofit organizations alone in North America. If we can help just 5% of those make $5,000 on each "speed fundraiser," that means we will have raised an incredible half a billion dollars for charity, and half a billion dollars for our company. I don't know about you, but I can live with that!" Prentice believes that if you can help organizations make money, and split the net proceeds 50/50, you will see a new level of socially responsible businesses.
"For example, we've been approached about how we can get our shirts with their positive message into schools, and we believe using them as a fundraising tool is fantastic - the school gets money back, we make money, and now there are more kids that can benefit from our concept." In theory, this model can be applied to any organization whether it is Scouts, or Big Sisters Big Brothers, animal rescue, or indeed any type of fundraiser - nonprofit or corporate.
"Our first group using this model is the Nova Scotia SPCA," said Prentice. "We will be hosting a special web page for them for 3 weeks from March 16, 2009 to April 6, 2009 and during that time, 50% of the net proceeds of every shirt or every Pet Ease CD/MP3 sold goes directly to the SPCA. Our goal is at least 1,000 shirts and 1,000 CDs sold in that time."
Prentice says they do all the "grunt" work, and the host organization gets all the benefit. The host organization just needs to email its members, host a banner on their website, and/or include word of the campaign in their newsletter. "We don't want their list," says Prentice, "just let their members/volunteers/sponsors/employees know about it." Creo Mundi does the rest - building the secure web page; adding the artwork (in this case, SPCA name and logo to the shirts); processing the payments; processing the orders; and at the end, hopefully writing a nice big cheque to the SPCA.
What a story. Perhaps they should rename their company, from Creo Mundi (Latin for Create Your Universe) to The Little Company That Could (and DID!).
The Nova Scotia SPCA is a non-profit registered charity organized under the provincial Animal Cruelty Prevention Act, dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals and to the promotion of respect and humane care for animals.
