The Yarmouth Branch animal shelter is only one of two Nova Scotia SPCA shelters west of Halifax. The Yarmouth Branch was the first branch and was formed in 1900 and built an animal shelter in 1982/83 with an extension added in 1989 and renovations in 2006. There are currently four employees and many dedicated volunteers that support the Branch.
The Yarmouth Branch rescues and takes care of abused, abandoned, homeless animals and attempts to find good homes for the unwanted animals in our care. The Branch admits approximately 700 animals per year to the shelter. The expenses of running the shelter are covered by fundraising, memberships, donations, dog control services and community events.
